CORVALLIS, OR – NOVEMBER 19, 2018: Doug Davis, the volunteer coordinator for Benton County’s Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Initiative chats with Eileen Gallardo about paint colors for her home’s siding. Since Gallardo did not have the funds to replace her home’s rotting siding, Davis’ team filled screw holes and primed the wood in order to protect and preserve the existing siding Monday, Nov. 19 at her home in Corvallis, Oregon. Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Initiative provides zero-interest loans to families for home materials and has donated over 2,524 volunteer labor hours so far this year.
This assignment was a final project for Photojournalism (JAMS 321). I captured Benton Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Initiative volunteers as they worked on a critical home repair project. I then edited and compiled select images to create a compelling photostory. Through this assignment, I understood the how to create entertaining and informative content as I identified newsworthy values to attract readers.

This assignment was a final project written for Information Gathering (JAMS 377). I researched and analyzed scholarly work on my topic of choice: sexual assault on college campuses. I wrote more than 100 pages of an annotated bibliography and then formed an argumentative essay based on the following research question: How should college administrators handle sexual assault reports on campus? I learned how to write formal, informed, persuasive content that adheres to strict grammar, writing standards and AP Stylebook standards.
