Catalist Brochure

This assignment, which is yet to be completed, is for Senior Capstone (JAMS 489). I crafted brochure materials as a visual public relations tool to promote Linfield College Career Development’s Catalist, a Student Talent Network, in its inaugural year. More specifically, this brochure’s is intended to reach local organizations to encourage them to hire Catalisters. Through this assignment, I understood the structures and functions of mediated communication and creating persuasive content via design work and public relations strategy.

Cellar Ridge Strategic Communication Plan

This assignment was for Social Media Theories and Practice (JAMS 343). I wrote up and presented a public relations and social media strategic communication plan for my client: Cellar Ridge Construction. In this strategic communication plan, I addressed the company’s problem, goal, target audience, objectives, strategies and my method for analyzing results. Through this assignment, I understood the effects of media on audiences and how specific media theories play a role in creating persuasive content for organizations via social media and public relations strategy.

#DontSuckReuse Campaign Evaluation

This assignment was for Environmental Communication and Advocacy (JAMS 357). This paper is a reflection and evaluation of a semester-long campaign titled #DontSuckReuse to encourage students and faculty to avoid straws and bring reusable cups to the campus Starbucks. This work evaluated stakeholder engagement created via social media promotion, posters, press release and word-of-mouth promotion. Through this assignment, I understood the effects of media on audiences and how specific media theories play a role in creating persuasive content.

PR Situation Analysis and Campaign Plan

This assignment, which is yet to be completed, was for Public Relations Writing (JAMS 347). I crafted a public relations situation analysis and campaign plan for Benton Habitat for Humanity to recruit more volunteers. In this plan I identified retired community members as a motivated target audience for volunteer recruitment. I identified the situation analysis, goals, objectives, strategies, tactics and potential evaluation. Through this assignment, I understood the effects of media on audiences and how specific media theories play a role in creating persuasive content for organizations via public relations strategy.

CORVALLIS, OR – NOVEMBER 19, 2018: Doug Davis, the volunteer coordinator for Benton County’s Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Initiative chats with Eileen Gallardo about paint colors for her home’s siding. Since Gallardo did not have the funds to replace her home’s rotting siding, Davis’ team filled screw holes and primed the wood in order to protect and preserve the existing siding Monday, Nov. 19 at her home in Corvallis, Oregon. Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Initiative provides zero-interest loans to families for home materials and has donated over 2,524 volunteer labor hours so far this year.

This assignment was a final project for Photojournalism (JAMS 321). I captured Benton Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Initiative volunteers as they worked on a critical home repair project. I then edited and compiled select images to create a compelling photostory. Through this assignment, I understood the how to create entertaining and informative content as I identified newsworthy values to attract readers.

Adele/Harry Potter Parody

This assignment was for Electronic Media Practices (JAMS 112). I storyboarded, composed lyrics, staged actors and edited both audio and video for a Harry Potter and Adele parody music video. Through this assignment, I understood the structures and functions of mediated communication and creating persuasive content via design work and public relations strategy. I learned how to create entertaining media content, and after presenting my work to class, understand the effects of media on audiences.

How College Administrators Should Handle Sexual Assault

This assignment was a final project written for Information Gathering (JAMS 377). I researched and analyzed scholarly work on my topic of choice: sexual assault on college campuses. I wrote more than 100 pages of an annotated bibliography and then formed an argumentative essay based on the following research question: How should college administrators handle sexual assault reports on campus? I learned how to write formal, informed, persuasive content that adheres to strict grammar, writing standards and AP Stylebook standards.
